Hi everyone! Hope this post finds you well! I have been hoping to get more dramatic photos of this project, but am getting a little close to the wire, so I wanted to be sure and share something now! RP Custom fabrics has a round that will be open February 18-28 that is called FebruArty. It is a truly EPIC round, full of prints that are a mix of classic art pieces and current fandoms. I’m in love with all of the prints, but especially the one that we got to sew up, (of course) called #JokerScreams !
I love how much detail is in this print! The print is a staggered repeat and even though we only had a fat half, there was plenty of the different scene details to work with. Kalel (my 5 year old) has become exceedingly picky about the items that I make for him lately. He doesn’t want pants that are too tight or too loose. He doesn’t want shirts with long sleeves (unless they have hoods and pockets) and doesn’t like large waistbands. Funny that he never had these issues until I started making him custom clothing! (lol) I searched through all my boy patterns and ended up coming back to one of our old favorites, the Brindille and Twig scuba raglan hoodie. We have several hoodie patterns, but I love the neckline of this particular pattern, as well as the shoulder seam detail. I think it adds a pop of color and helps tie everything together. (it’s a little hard to see here, as I used the same print on the sleeves. But it’s there!)
You can find the FREE B&T hoodie pattern here: https://brindilletwig.com/collections/free/products/hooded-raglan-sweatshirt-067
We have been struggling to find a pant pattern that he will actually wear. (apparently, he hates joggers now.) Because of this, I reached for one I’ve had in my stash for awhile, but never used; the Elliedactyl 10K pants pattern. This one is another freebie, found on their website (clicking the pattern name above), using the coupon code found in the facebook group here. They are a unisex pant pattern with wide or tapered leg options, an optional stripe down the side, cuffs and a not-too-large (according to kalel) waistband. 🙂 I loved that they were super quick and easy to put together. I did manage to get confused when sewing the stripes up one side. Seam ripping a triple stretch stitch is not my favorite thing, but it was a necessary evil. I love the way they turned out (once the stripe was right side up!) …and more importantly, I love that he LOVES them! 🙂
We had a lot of fun doing batman poses for his photoshoot. I am really proud of him, you guys! The day we needed to get these pics done, we had both been super sick with the flu and it was FRIGID outside. Not only did he brave the cold, but he actually posed and gave me some smiles, too! Granted, we would get out of the van and take 3 pics, then hop back in to warm up….but we got it done. That’s all that matters, right?
The collage up top is only a few of the prints that had been sewn up by the time we turned our photos in. There are even more gorgeous pieces done now. You can find all the full size photos (along with sneaks for the next few rounds) in the RP Custom Fabrics facebook group here. This FebruArty round of prints will be open from February 18-28, 2018 and you will be able to purchase them on the RP Custom Fabrics site here. I can’t wait until it opens! We would love to sew up more of the Joker Screams print, as well as the Monet & Little Mermaid print, or the Starry nights & Harry Potter print….maybe Mario, too? Like I said, there are a ton of gorgeous things! Be sure to grab them while the preorder is open!
Thanks so much for stopping by and for reading,
Until next time,
April Simpson Hunt
