**Video/vlog version is at the bottom of this post, if you would rather watch & listen than read 🙂
Hi everyone! Thanks so much for stopping by!
I have been vlogging often on my YouTube channel lately. I try to at least post one video a week. Sometimes, I surprise myself and upload 2, but I’m pretty proud of myself for doing even one thing consistently, so I’m trying not to push myself too hard. 🙂 You can find my YouTube channel here: Mermaid Mama Designs YouTube Channel. The whole thing has been pretty fun, although vlogging and making videos in general is a lot more work than you would think. But that’s another topic for another day. Today, it’s New Years Eve, and I’m all about looking backwards and forwards….at the same time!
My Reasons for blogging are:
- To share my pretty things- I recently discovered that my blog wasn’t as true to life as I would like to have it. I am guilty of posting mainly pictures of my finished sewing projects and pretty things that I’ve made, or pretty pictures of them…or both. As shallow as sharing only finished pictures of things may be, I feel enormously proud of my finished sewing projects. It feels good to share them. To this end, my goal for 2018 in this respect is to share more tutorials and how to posts, so that I can help inspire others to make pretty things, too!
- To give a voice to the “real mom” or step mom- There are so many mom bloggers out there. There seems to be one in almost every category. I’m proud to see that there are a few more blended family blogs out there now. When I first began blogging, there weren’t many at all and it made me sad. Being in a blended family is wonderful, but it comes with its own set of challenges and issues that are only understood by those who have done it before. To this end, my goal for 2018 in this respect is to post more content for new blended families/moms. I want them to know that they are not alone and I would like to share our story.
- To make more friends-As a mom AND and introvert, it can be a bit challenging to maintain friendships. I have several good friends who live locally that I don’t get to see very often, due to time constraints or just issues with kids, illness or any number of things that pop up. Thank goodness for the internet. Support is so important as a mother/wife/woman. I’m truly blessed to be able to share and get support from so many incredible women that I’ve met online. To this end, my goal for 2018 in this respect is…to get more friends! (lol)
I have a few more goals in mind. I would love to finally figure out how to successfully monetize both my blog and my other channels. The main goal I have for the upcoming year, though, is to be more present. I am sooo guilty of being occupied with sewing, photography, vlogging, editing, etc etc….and not spending enough quality time with the ones who I love. My kids will only be little for a short while. I’ve decided that I will spend at least one full day (hopefully more!) off of all devices and electronics, just to be with my family. I have so many different things going on, between all my different channels and tests, fabric strikes and social media management, I am guilty of being glued to my laptop and phone 24/7 lately…and I don’t like it. My kids are little mirrors of me, and when I look at them lately, it makes me sad to see them holding their own devices, ignoring each other (and their new playset) in favor of electronics and videos. Granted, it’s cold as hell outside and it’s hard to find a lot of things to do inside, but still…I want to be a model of good behavior. But more than that, I want to be there for my kids, in all the ways. (mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally) I can’t do that if I’m not even looking up from whatever device I’m holding.
What about you? What are your goals and plans for 2018? Do you make New Years’ resolutions or goals of any sort? Why did you start blogging (if you blog)? I would love to hear from you!
Thank you so much for stopping by, reading and for supporting me!
Until next time,
