In my time spent testing patterns, I have found that there are some designers who seem to have the midas touch, because every pattern they design turns out golden. This is the case with Kristi Fitzpatrick of George & Ginger Patterns.
***psssst: the Facebook group linked above may even have a few free patterns (such as the one below) that you can download after joining***
G&G is one of my favorite pattern companies because they have a real knack for turning the everyday article of clothing into something unique that you find yourself reaching for again and again. All the pieces are beautiful and classy, but also modern and sexy.
This was my first time testing for Kristi. It was also my first time doing a collection of pieces. I assumed it would be crazy, tons of work and stressful. I could not have been more wrong. This whole process was fun, seamless and gave me the most amazing new wardrobe for summer!
The Confidence Collection is 3 individual pieces, meant to be worn by themselves, with ready to wear clothing from your closet, or mixed and matched with each other. I love this collection for many reasons, but mostly because it offers so many options. You can do each piece in coordinating prints & wear them all together. You can also make them as stand alone pieces, to be paired with ready to wear pieces already in your closet. Or, you can do as I have, and create a mix of both and have a complete new wardrobe!
So, without further ado, here is the Confidence Collection!

This skirt is a totally new take on a classic wardrobe piece. There are 2 pockets, situated on the hip bone. The fabric surrounding the pockets has been pleated to create a unique twisted look. The skirt comes to right above the knee and has a yoga waistband that hits perfectly at the natural waist, drawing you in at your smallest point & making you appear super tiny.
The skirt can be made from any knit fabric, but we found that it usually looks best when made from more structured fabrics, such as ponte, scuba or cotton lycra.
The pattern is available in sizes XXS – 3XL and offers a full color photo tutorial. You can purchase this pattern individually by clicking here.
I have had a bodysuit on my to do list for awhile now. I was a child of the 80s/90s and bodysuits were my jam. The ones I’ve found recently in stores, however, did little except serve to remind me that my body has changed since then. They were all either too high cut, too low cut or just didn’t fit correctly. (Can you say “all day wedgie? ” No, thank you!)
So when Kristy put out the tester call, I jumped on it! Again, I expected it to be lots of trial and error and working on fit issues, but again, I was wrong. There was exactly ONE version of this pattern. (If you’re in testing, then you will recognize what a feat this is!)
The bodysuit is fitted and is one piece. It can be made with or without (short, 3/4 or long) sleeves. The front can be a standard curved neckline or you can create this fabulous lace up neckline. It features a lower cut back and has a full coverage booty (no riding up!). There is even a snap placket option for those who aren’t fan’s of trips to the bathroom in one piece ensembles. You can purchase this individual pattern by clicking here.
If there was one piece of the collection that I was on the fence about, it was these shorts. I have a hard time shopping for or creating shorts usually. It seems they are either super long board shorts (and make me look like a 12 year old boy) or they have a -1″ inseam and I find myself constantly questioning whether I should be wearing them out and about.
These shorts are in that perfect middle ground. They’re short enough to be sexy, without being so short that you worry about wardrobe malfunctions. They even double as a great swim short, when done in swim fabric!
You can purchase this individual pattern here.
I love the mix and match capability of this collection. I love each individual piece and have already made many more version’s of each since testing. Keep an eye out for my next post about how to turn 2 of the pieces into swimwear!
A little birdy told me there was also a dress in the works that will be released sometime soon! I can’t wait to see what else is next for a George & Ginger!
